A juvenile and 25-year-old have been involved in a shooting Saturday in Pittsylvania County.
Authorities from the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 700 block of Cedar Forest Rd. in the Long Island community of Pittsylvania County, shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct, 12, 2019 for a report of someone that had been shot.
Upon arrival, deputies found one person that had been the victim of a gunshot wound and the alleged shooter was still on scene.
The alleged shooter was detained at the scene and the victim of the gunshot wound was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
While at the scene, deputies and investigators learned that the victim of the shooting had broken into a residence that belonged to his mother and was shot by a 17 year old relative.
The person that was shot was 25 year old Xavier Tyler Slayton and he was undergoing surgery at the time of the press release.
Warrants have been obtained for Slayton for breaking and entering with intent to commit murder.
Police say the charge is a class 3 felony and if found guilty, carries a prison sentence of not less than 5 years but not more than 20 years and a fine up to $100,000.
Charges have not been filed against the juvenile, however the case is still under investigation.
The name of the juvenile is being withheld.
