2nd house fire Monday.jpg

The house at 19949 Old Richmond Rd was swarmed with fire engines Monday when owner Charlie Williams discovered fire in his attic. This made for the second structure fire call in the county that day.

Fire crews responded to a structure fire around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon at the 19000 block of Old Richmond Road.

As the owner of the house, Charlie Williams, explained, the fire began in the attic, and he didn't notice it at first.

"I kept hearing popping, but I couldn't see anything," Williams said. "I went upstairs, and the smoke blew me back!"

Pittsylvania County Fire Marshall Jeff Conner said he could not say what the cause of the fire was at the time.

Williams was the only one in the house and is not injured.

This marks the second structure fire in the county in one day, as a mobile home in Gretna was destroyed by fire early that morning, leaving nine without a home.

Conner confirmed that the fire in this case was contained to the upstairs, and as such, the house is still inhabitable.
