Car crash on South Main

Emergency personnel are on the scene of a car crash on South Main Street in Danville.


The victims in Wednesday evening's crash on South Main Street have been identified by Danville police as 74-year-old Teddie Lee Hendrix and 53-year-old Wendy Michelle Meadows, both of Providence, North Carolina.

The investigation is ongoing.



In a news release, Danville police said two occupants of a 2000 Nissan Altima were pronounced dead at the scene of the car crash at the intersection of Updike Place and South Main Street. 

Police, fire and rescue units responded to the two vehicle crash at approximately 5:06 p.m. 

A preliminary investigation revealed that the Nissan pulled off of Updike Place and into the path of a 2014 GMC Sierra Pickup that was traveling in the southbound lane of South Main Street.

The investigation is ongoing.

Both southbound lanes are blocked to traffic. 

In a tweet, the Danville Police Department advised motorists to be patient with detours and consider taking alternate routes.
