10:26 p.m. UPDATE: Ringgold Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department Chief Mike Neal says crews have returned to First Piedmont's landfill on Clark's Mill Road for a third fire. 


ORIGINAL STORY: Pittsylvania County fire crews battled two fires at the First Piedmont landfill early Thursday morning. 

According to Ringgold Fire Department Assistant Chief Brett Phelps, at 4:26 am Ringgold was dispatched for a smoke investigation on Clark’s Mill Road at the landfill.

“The first unit on scene found a large fire, then a second fire was also found,” Phelps said. 

Ringgold responded with three fire trucks and an ambulance. Also on scene was mutual aid requested from Kentuck, Blairs, and Semora for tankers.
