Effective April 1, 2020, Emily Ragsdale will step into the role of Director of Community Development for Pittsylvania County.

Ms. Ragsdale holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public and Urban Affairs from Virginia Tech, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Public Policy from Liberty University. Ms. Ragsdale spent the last 10 years of her career working for the City of Danville serving in various Planning roles; including Housing & Development Planning Specialist; and most recently as the Facilities and Services Planner in Parks and Recreation. She brings a wealth of experience in planning and development, and a strong leadership background to her new role.

I look forward to serving county residents and working to help our community grow by improving upon the many assets that Pittsylvania County has tooffer, making it a more attractive place for people to live and businesses to locate.”

Emily is a Pittsylvania County native, raised in the Mt. Hermon Community and graduated from Tunstall High School. Currently, her husband Josh, and two children Madelyn and Wyatt, live in Java.

County Administrator David Smitherman said, “Emily will bring renewed focus on how we professionally serve our construction community and assist residents with the zoning process. Her education, experience, and Pittsylvania heritage are perfectly suited for how we position and lead the County forward.”
