UPDATE: A combination of public safety agencies and tactics came together to rescue a man who had sunken into muddy grown and gotten stuck.

ORIGINAL STORY: 

An employee of the Town of Chatham was repairing a sewer line on Hurt street next to Chatham Terrace Apartments when he sank into the wet mud and got stuck.

The ground has suctioned his legs. Attempts to pull him out have been unsuccessful. Public works director Rodney Bryant said there is concern of hypothermia due to the cold water.

Attempts to drain the water are underway.
