A Ringgold family is unhurt after a van accidentally crashed into their home on Ringgold Depot Road Saturday afternoon.
Husband and wife Samuel and Catherine Edmunds described how the accident occurred.
"We were sitting in the living room. Samuel was eating his dinner. He and our son had just got back from getting sandwiches," Catherine said.
The van struck the home, tearing open the living room wall feet from where the couple was sitting. The rubble brushed up against Samuel's leg, yet didn't leave a scratch.
The crash blew their TV off the wall onto the sofa across the room. The van and the rubble missed them by inches.
The Edmunds believe it was a miracle.
"We were blessed," they both said.
The Edmunds' son was in the home but in another room.
Pittsylvania County Fire Marshall Jeff Conner said that both the Red Cross and Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department responded and that a building inspector determined that the house was unstable and unlivable for the time being.
"We're not sure where we're going to go," the Edmunds said.
According to state police, the driver of the burgundy van swerved to avoid an animal on the road, lost control and careened into the home.
The driver has been charged with failure to maintain control of the vehicle.
