The mobile home at 1591 Mill-Stream Dr was left destroyed from Monday morning's fire. The roof has collapsed, the insides have been scorched and the outside shows black marks from the flames.

Fire destroyed a mobile home in Gretna early Monday morning, leaving nine without a home.

Pittsylvania County Fire Marshall Terry Kelly said it took half an hour to put out the fire after the Gretna Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call at 1591 Mill-Stream Dr. around 2 a.m.

Kelly also said that it was thanks to a 16-year-old boy who was awake when the fire started that the seven people in the home at the time were able to get out safely, including a 4-month-old infant.

The blackened remains of the mobile home are unlivable. Kelly said there was too much damage to determine the cause of the fire, which has been left "undetermined."

The Red Cross responded to assist the displaced family.
