Matthew Dustin Moore, 30, remains at large Friday morning, Feb. 8 after police say he is the only suspect in a shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon in a parking lot near the South Boston Road Dollar General.

A red Chevrolet pickup was recovered overnight by Danville police on the north side of Danville according to Lieutenant Richard Chivvis.

“We have reasons to believe [Moore and the victim] had interaction earlier [Thursday],” Chivvis said.

While it was unclear how Moore and the victim knew each other, Chivvis said phone records indicated they did know each other.

The victim’s name has not been released and they remain in critical condition as of a 10 a.m. press conference.

“Witnesses were put in a difficult spot. No one was in the line of fire, but after the shots they came out, assisted the victim, and gave an accurate description of the vehicle [Moore was driving],” Chivvis said.

A wide area at the crime scene was marked off between Dollar General and Advance Auto Parts Thursday afternoon as placards were spread throughout the parking lot.

Bloodied rags laid against a curb near the Dollar General storefront after police say the victim was only shot once.

Chivvis said the shooting was not a random act.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Matthew Dustin Moore is encouraged to call 911, Danville Crime Stoppers at (434) 793-0000, the Danville Police Department at (434) 799-6508, or by email at crimetips@danvilleva.gov. Information given will remain confidential.
