An overturned car into a building is under investigation off US 58 west.

Virginia State Police Trooper B.J. Hylton is investigating a single vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality. The crash occurred Wednesday, July 3, at 10:36 a.m. on Route 58near Route 51 in Pittsylvania County.

A 2015 Toyota Venza was traveling west on Route 58, when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch, overturned; then struck a building. 

The Toyota was driven by Joan J. Stewart, 70, of Cascade, Va.  Ms. Stewart was wearing her seatbelt and was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Stewart died shortly after midnight, July 4 according to state police Sgt. R. Garletts.  

The crash remains under investigation.


An overturned car that wound up in a building on Lemon Lane near Westover Drive is under investigation by Virginia State Police. 

The call came in to first responders at 10:44 a.m. according to Bryan Fox with the Danville Life Saving Crew. 

Trooper B. Hylton said one person was airlifted from the scene.

Hylton said the car exited US 58 east before overturning and coming to rest in the side of a building.

No names are being released at this time by state police. 

The crash remains under investigation.
