Shannon Dale Edwards, 51, pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic assault and battery Wednesday, Jan. 8 in Pittsylvania County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
The former county investigator was arrested Nov. 7, 2019 on accusations of assaulting and battering a household member, a woman he has a child with.
According to a criminal complaint against Edwards, he threw an object at his child’s mother that struck her in the left eye, causing swelling. She also reported that Edwards hit, kicked and shook her.
Edwards entered into a plea agreement with the prosecution that included a required anger management course and 12 months of active probation followed by 12 months of unsupervised probation.
Judge Timothy Allen found the evidence sufficient to prove Edward’s guilt, but decided to defer conviction for two years, with the stipulation that any probation violations would bring him back into court on the same charge.
