A GardaWorld armored truck was involved in a crash Thursday, Sept. 5 on U.S. 29 in Chatham.

After a fatal traffic crash occurred Thursday, Sept. 5 on U.S. 29 in Chatham, armored vehicle company GardaWorld has issued a statement.

According to Corinne Geller, public relations director for the Virginia State Police, at 3:57 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, Virginia State Police responded to a fatal crash in Pittsylvania County. 

The two-vehicle crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Route 29 north of the community of Tightsqueeze. There is one confirmed fatality. The crash remains under investigation. 

The highway was closed for approximately three hours while first responders worked the scene.

The GardaWorld statement reads: 

GardaWorld is conducting an internal investigation and deploying the resources required to support impacted employees, as per corporate policy and procedures. For privacy reasons, we cannot disclose information regarding our employees’ health. While all assets were accounted for, our primary concern is with those affected by the accident. 

We thank the authorities for their swift response following the accident, and are providing them with our full cooperation. As such, we are not in a position to provide any additional information. 

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted by this tragic accident.

The name of the person killed has not been released by state police.
