Sunday night multiple homes in the Pittsylvania County area were damaged when a confirmed tornado passed over the county and touched down in several locations.

Just off Burke Road and Blue Ridge Drive, a home was directly hit by the tornado, causing the roof to be removed and heavy damage to the rest of the structure and property.

According to the command center of the Gretna Fire Department located on the scene, the tornado hit multiple dwellings in the area causing displacement of people and heavy damage. Crews will be on the scene throughout the evening assisting residents and clearing damage.

The Red Cross has been called in to assist county residents.
