This afternoon, the Danville Police Department got several calls about a black bear roaming around the Piney Forest Road area.

On social media, the department said it is not unusual to see bears during this time of year.

The department gave advice on Facebook about what to do when encountering a black bear, including giving it space and letting the bear know it is not welcome by making noise.
