Before a closed meeting on Wednesday evening, the Danville School Board chose a new chair and vice chair.
Board member Crystal Cobbs was approved as the board’s new chairperson.
Going forward, she said her focus will be on teamwork and education, communication and transparency from the board to the community.
“It’s a team effort,” Cobbs said. “The chair position holds more responsibility, but no more than any of the other seats...I’m looking to move forward and educate the community on how the school board works.”
Ty’Quan Graves was chosen to serve as the vice chair for the school board.
He said this position was a way for him to serve the community he grew up in.
“We’re going to work together during these unprecedented times,” Graves said. “The most important thing [to consider] is what’s best for the kids.”
Wednesday’s meeting was also the first for newly elected members Dr. Philip Campbell, Charles McWilliams, and Tyrell Payne.
The first open meeting of the reorganized school board will be on July 9.
