The United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County is proud to announce the appointment of Jennifer Smith as President & CEO of the organization effective January 1, 2019. Smith is a familiar face at the United Way, having served as Interim CEO twice, as well as former Chair of the Board of Directors, Community Investment Committee Chair and, while serving as Campaign Chair, raised over one million dollars.
Smith has worked in the nonprofit field for over 30 years, retiring from Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services where she was Director of Prevention and Quality Assurance. Since then she served as Interim CEO for The Arc of Southside and as a nonprofit management consultant providing grant writing, strategic planning and program evaluation services.
“We are fortunate to have Jennifer as our new CEO. In addition to her extensive nonprofit management experience, Jennifer has a strong United Way background,” said Donna Higdon, United Way Board Chair. “This has allowed Jennifer to move United Way forward in the development of new initiatives and program goals during her time as Interim CEO and will now continue to lead United Way going forward.”
“I am excited about this opportunity to grow the United Way in Danville and Pittsylvania County,” said Smith. “There are so many individuals and agencies in the area that depend upon the support they receive from United Way that enables them to provide critical services to our community. Working with the many nonprofits in the area again is like coming home.”
