The number of COVID-19 cases in the Pittsylvania-Danville Health District has more than doubled from 272 on July 11, to 560 today, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
Forty-three cases recorded yesterday in the district marks the highest single-day total on record.
In the district, there have been 57 hospitalized and five dead.
In Virginia, over 86,000 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed, as of today.
7,647 have been hospitalized in the state, with a death toll standing at 2,082.
Pittsylvania County has progressed from a four to a five on the seven-point scale where seven implies an area that is highly infected with the virus, so reported the VDH today.
