July 3 9:32 a.m. UPDATE: Virginia State Police Trooper T.W. Eastridge is investigating a two vehicle crash which resulted in a fatality. The crash occurred Tuesday, July 2 at 7:05 p.m. on Route 40, one tenth of a mile west of Route 630 in Pittsylvania County. 

A 2008 Mini Cooper was traveling east on Route 40 when the vehicle crossed the center line of the roadway and struck a 2003 Cadillac Escalade head-on.

The 2008 Mini Cooper was driven by Edwin Samuel Wilson, 67, of Nathalie, Va. Wilson was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.

State police say there is no information on the driver of the 2003 Cadillac at this time.

The crash remains under investigation. 


ORIGINAL STORY: A fatal traffic crash in Pittsylvania County is under investigation by the Virginia State Police. 

According to Pittsylvania County Emergency Services Director Chris Slemp, first responders arrived on scene at the crash between Telegraph Road and Hodnetts Road Tuesday evening, July 2. 

Slemp said two vehicles were involved. One person died at the scene. It is not known if there were any other injuries. 

This is the first fatal traffic crash of 2019 in Pittsylvania County according to the state police.
