Former Pittsylvania County Department of Social Services Director Sherry Flanagan

A $4 million lawsuit filed in Roanoke City Circuit Court by former Pittsylvania County Department of Social Services Director Sherry Flanagan is being transferred to federal court. 

According to Roanoke City Circuit Court Clerk’s Office, the order for removal from the circuit court to the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia was signed by Judge David Carson Tuesday, June 11.

Flanagan filed the lawsuit against  Pittsylvania County, the board of supervisors, Henry Hurt, and Vic Ingram. 

According to the lawsuit, the defendants are accused of defamation, deprivation of constitutional due process, and wrongful termination predicated upon a violation of her first amendment rights. 

Flanagan was terminated by the county DSS board on Aug. 30, 2018. 

No trial date has been set.
