Dexter Hugh Adams

Dexter Hugh Adams of Chatham, was born March 8, 1947 in Danville, Virginia and passed into eternity October 14, 2019 at Centra Gretna Medical Center in Gretna Virginia after a brief illness.

Dexter grew up in Java, Virginia on a tobacco farm with his surviving brother, David Leslie Adams and cousins, Tim Adkins, Theresa Adams, and Wanda Marks. He was predeceased by his parents Raymond Hugh Adams and Hunter Terry Adams.

As a 1965 graduate of Chatham High School, Dexter married his high school sweetheart, Cathy Easley Adams, who survives at their residence in Chatham, Virginia.

Dexter joined the Navy and served his country proudly. He was very proud to be the third generation to serve in the United States Navy following after his father, Raymond Hugh Adams and grandfather, Raymond Terry Adams.

Always known to be a hard worker, Dexter worked as a postal clerk for the United States Post Office in Chatham, Virginia where everyone knew and loved him for his friendliness.

Also known to be a great friend and always willing to help, he will be sadly missed by his many close friends.

Uncle Dexter was his favorite name, he so loved and doted on his nephews and nieces and their families. Cherishing his love, laughter, and memories are Duane and Tiffany Adams, Les and Melanie Adams and their sons Roger and Garrett, Chris and Sharon Wygal and their children Evelyn, Julie, and Matthew, and Noel and Darci Hendrickson and their children, Clara and Grant, Chris Knick and children Samaria and Chris, Nathan Knick and children Robert and Sierra, Mary and Brian Shade, and Amanda Wyatt.

The family will receive friends, 1 p.m. till 1:45 p.m., Monday, October 21, 2019 at Norris Funeral Services, Inc., Mt. Hermon Chapel, 3995 Franklin Tpke., Danville VA, 24540.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, October 21, 2019 following the visitation at Norris Funeral Services, Inc., Mt. Hermon Chapel. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
