Hazel Mattox Ingram Seawell

Hazel Mattox Ingram Seawell, 97, of Danville died Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Autumn Care Nursing and Rehab in Altavista.

Born August 20, 1922 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Carson Mattox, Sr. and Virgie Farmer Mattox. She was twice married, first to the late Thomas Marion Ingram and then to the late George Daniel Seawell. She was predeceased by a son, John Larry Ingram; and three brothers, Carson Mattox, Richard “Dickie” Mattox and Grover “Pete” Mattox. She was a former member of New Prospect Baptist Church, following her move to Danville she moved her church membership to the former Highland Park Baptist Church. Hazel was a graduate of Gretna High School, where she was an All-State Girls Basketball player. Mrs. Seawell retired from General Electric and from the Department of Corrections Commonwealth of Virginia. She enjoyed antiquing, gardening, flowers, cooking, and traveling.

She is survived by three sons, Frederic Marion “Fred” Ingram and wife, Carol Ann of Gretna, Dwight Ingram and wife, Donna of The Village, FL and Terry Ingram of Chatham; two brothers, Herbert Mattox and wife, Shelby of Altavista and Ramsey “Dude” Mattox and wife, Elva of Chase City; three sisters, Ann Hamlett and husband, Irvin of Gretna, Nancy Tucker and husband, Raymond of Lynch Station and Judy Walker and husband, Bobby of Hurt; seven grandchildren, Frederic Marion “Fred” Ingram, Jr., Sonja Ann Ingram, Brian Scott Ingram, Lauri Dickerson Ingram Evans and husband, Dr. Clifford John Evans, Jason Dwight-Thomas Ingram, Joseph Ashley Ingram, and April Marie Ingram; and 13 great-grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Ingram, Hannah Faith Ingram, Hope Marie Ingram, Elliott Ingram Evans, Spencer Christian Evans, Emily Grace Evans, Caleb Thomas Ingram, Quinn James Ingram, Presley Hayes Ingram, Lucas Finnegan Ingram, Samuel Eames Ingram, Anakin Aotea Ingram-Chase, and Victor Grayson Ingram.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2019 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Brady Willis. Burial will follow in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2019 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
