Drewery Emerson Hyler, Jr.

Drewery Emerson Hyler, Jr., 91, of the Brosville community departed this life on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at SOVAH Danville after a decline in health for several years.

Drew was born in Pittsylvania County, Va. on January 23, 1928, a son of the late Drewery Emerson Hyler, Sr. and Myrtle Green Hyler.

Drew served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict then returning home along with his brother Pete; they ran Hyler Brothers Construction Company for over fifty years. He attended Vandola Baptist Church.

On February 16, 1951 he married, Ellen Hylton Hyler, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include a daughter, Debbie H. Walker; a son, Ricky D. Hyler (Debbie); five grandchildren, Josh Walker, Sheena Garrett (Ernie), Beth Adkins (Michael), Brooke Pleasant (RJ), Britney Hyler; seven great-grandchildren, Luke, Natalie, Eddie, Harper, Corrie, River, and Payton.

Drew was the last survivor of his generation being predeceased by sisters, Catheryne Mathes, Audrey Carmichael, two brothers, Nelson Page Hyler, Sr., Robert “Pete” Hyler.

Funeral services were on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel conducted by Dr. Scott Bortz, Rev. Robert Hardy, IV, and Mr. Glen Hudson. Interment followed in the Green Family Cemetery.

The family received friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times at the residence of Ricky and Debbie Hyler, 3768 Horseshoe Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to God’s Pit Crew.
