Lorene Chism Ferguson, 82, of Gretna died Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Born April 16, 1937 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Alvin Lee Chism and Jennie Mae Haskins Chism Robertson. She was predeceased by her husband, James William Ferguson, Sr.; and two brothers, Rueben William Chism, and Harry Wayne Chism. Mrs. Ferguson was a member of Summersett Baptist Church and retired from Ennis Business Forms. The biggest joy in her life was her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, gardening, doing yard work and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two sons, James “Jay” William Ferguson, Jr. and wife, Leaza of Hampton, and Alan Wayne Ferguson and wife, Holly of Gretna; two daughters, Janet Leigh Clark of Hampton, and Tammy Dowdy and fiancé, Chuck Bowman of Sandy Level; one brother, Roger Chism and wife, Brenda of Gretna; one sister, Shelby Crews and husband, Clyde of Hurt; six grandchildren, David Dowdy (Gwen), James Arthur (Crystal Byrd), Shannon Donavant (Lane Miller), Dylan R. Clark, Ashleigh Kinon (Chris), and Katie Ferguson; and one great-grandson, Gabe Layne.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2019 at Summersett Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Andrews. Burial will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
