Frances Long Land

Frances Long (Frankie) Land, 89, of Vinton, Va., was released to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, July 31, 2019.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Verde W. and Roscoe A. Long; her husband, Harry E. Land; and “special” son-in-law and grandson, Robert Hough and Marty Hough.

Frankie is survived by their daughters, Kathryn “Kathy” L. Wilkins and husband, Dave, of Greensboro, N.C., and Peggy L. Frye and fiancé, Bobby Bailey, of Pamplin, Va.; a son, Christopher N. Land and former wife, Janet; a granddaughter, Christine Land and a great-granddaughter, Megan Land, all of Rocky Mount, Va.; “special” daughter, Norene B. Hough and family, Jenny Purser and husband, Matt, their sons, Michael, Noah and Zach Hough, and Tonya and Billy Kalinoski, children, Elizabeth and Wilson, of Charlotte, N.C.; and a brother-in-law, Pete Johnson of Davidson, N.C. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frankie was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church. While in Chatham, she worked for Pittsylvania County Schools as a teacher, secretary and librarian. Her favorite job, however, was as church secretary. Frankie served in this capacity at Watson Memorial United Methodist Church in Chatham, at First Presbyterian Church and Huntington Court United Methodist Church in Roanoke.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 12, 2019, at Huntington Court UMC with the Rev. Jeff Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2019, at Oakey’s North Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Huntington Court UMC Endowment, 3333 Williamson Road, Roanoke, VA 24012 or to your favorite charity.
