Mary Ruth Yancey Pearson, 92, of Chatham, died Monday, November 25, 2019 at Gretna Health & Rehab.

Born July 29, 1927 in Orange County, she was a daughter of the late William Daniel Yancey and Ruth Foster Yancey. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, William K. “Billy” Pearson, Sr.; four brothers, Paul Yancey, Stuart Yancey, Sam Yancey and Jim Yancey; three sisters, Frances Eisenhower, Eva Lee, and Shirley Branham Hanvey. Mrs. Pearson was the oldest member of Piney Fork Baptist Church where she worked with the Beginners class for small children for many years. It was one of her greatest joys of her life when the little ones called her Nanny. She enjoyed quilting, canning and her flowers.

She is survived by one son, William K. Pearson, Jr. and wife, Selena of Chatham; two daughters, Terri P. Doss and husband, Calvin “Bunky” Doss of Gretna and Tamela P. Barnes of Hurt; one brother, Henry Yancey; two sisters, Hazel Moon and Peggy Garrett; five grandchildren, William “Billy” Pearson III and wife Margaret, Nathan Doss, Pearson Doss, Ethan Barnes and fiancée, Caroline Lee, and Evan Barnes; two great-grandchildren, Addison Doss and Aiden Pearson.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday November 30, 2019 at Piney Fork Baptist Church by Rev. Tyler R. Daniels. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2019 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Calvin “Bunky” Doss.

The family has a special thank you to the staff at Gretna Health & Rehab for all the care and love they provided.
