A Flight winner Andrew Baggerly

Andrew Baggerly was the A Flight Winner at the March 10 tournament held at Tuscarora Golf Club.

The Laidback Golf Tour began its seventh season Tuesday, March 10 under cloudy blustery weather conditions at Tuscarora Golf Club in Danville. The combination of early season jitters, scattered showers, strong wind gusts, and fast greens made scoring quite challenging for the group. Scores ranged from 85 to 101 with the majority being in the nineties. Only six birdies were carded by the entire field with two of them being made by a local member who was playing along with the group. The tour looks forward to its return next season to try to improve against the challenging tract.

Three A flights participants entered play with seven to eight handicaps but the best score they could muster was 85 which was low rounds for the day. Both Andrew Baggerly and Robert J. Adkins finished regulation with scores of 85. They agreed to a card match of back nine totals to determine the flights winner in which Baggerly won with a back nine total of 42. Kris Nixon had the only skin for that flight with his chip-in birdie on #3.

The B flight was led by Tuscarora member Dan Morgan who carded two birdies on his way to an 85 finish for first place. Jim White who won the flights closest to the pin prize, finished second with a round of 91. Danny Daniel was third at 94.

C flight only had two participants, but the competition was fierce as only one stroke separated the two. Randy McCann claimed the flights top spot with his round of 99. Randy Kenyon playing along with McCann finished right behind with 100.

D Flight had the largest field with six participants. Bart Truesdell led the group claiming the victory with his round of 93. Red Thompson finished second with his round of 95. Thompson also claimed the flights low net prize with his net score of 74.

The Tour will visit Danville Golf Club Monday, March 23 for its second outing of the season. Double points will be awarded there for where you finish in each flight. Starting time will be 10 a.m. with an entry fee of $70 for tour members. Participants may register anytime up until noon Saturday, March 21 by emailing golftripman@yahoo.com.
