Westover Christian and Hargrave Military battled back and forth on scorching hot day last week, with the game ending in a 2-2 tie.
Westover had not tied Hargrave since 2013 and had not beaten them since 2001.
Westover was led by senior captain Justin Oakes who scored on a header from junior Matthew Moore in the first half. During the second half Oakes scored on an assist from 8th grader Keeley Bettendorf. A great save came from defensive sophomore Luke Barber who headed the ball away just as it was headed to the back of the net. Many other great saves were made by goalie Ashton Bettendorf. Westover had several chances and shots on goal during the final minutes of the second half but were not able to finish. Westover now moves to 9-3-1 and 6-2 in conference.
Westover Christian Varsity Soccer picked up another victory and clinched consecutive winning seasons the first time since 2013 on Monday knocking off Roanoke Valley Christian 3-0.
The Bulldogs move to 10-3-1 on the season and 7-2 in conference.
Westover was led by senior captain Justin Oakes who scored his 28 and 29 goals of the season. Junior captain Chris Miller played dominate midfield and also scored on a laser shot from outside the box. Excellent defense was provided by senior captain Isaac Motley, freshman Ethan Joyce, and sophomores Luke Barber and Chris Massingale. Westover plays at Vandalia on Thursday.
