Information from the Virginia Department of Health today shows a man between the ages of 30-39 died of COVID-19 in Danville over the weekend.
This man marks one of nine deaths in Danville City recorded in a nine-day stretch between Oct. 2 and Oct. 10.
Danville city today is seeing 1,052 cases of the virus, along with 1,155 in Pittsylvania County.
Another three deaths in Danville over the weekend brings the death toll in the Pittsylvania-Danville Health District to 49, with 11 deaths in the county and 38 more in the city.
Health officials have also hospitalized 166 people with COVID-19 in the health district.
Virginia has reported 159,570 cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth, with 11,553 hospitalized and a death toll standing at 3,361.
Seventeen people died in Virginia of COVID-19 over the weekend, one of which was in Danville.
