Danville Public Schools was made aware of two positive COVID-19 cases yesterday, Thursday, Nov. 19.
One case was at Westwood Middle School and one case was at George Washington High School.
Billy Chaney, the DPS Pandemic Coordinator, began contact tracing immediately and identified any exposures within DPS.
At Westwood, that individual was last in the school building Monday, Nov. 16.
At GWHS, that individual was last in the school building Nov. 10.
All parents and staff at Westwood Middle School and GWHS have been notified.
DPS has contacted the Virginia Department of Health.
"Based on the mitigation efforts currently in place, we are confident that these incidents are contained and no further action is necessary," DPS Communications Director Anne Moore-Sparks said. "Both Westood and GWHS will continue with their normal school operating hours on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020."
A potential exposure is defined as close contact with a person who is infected with COVID-19.
Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more in a single day.
