Danville Fire Department yesterday responded to 229 Northside Dr. for a report of a dog trapped near a log, in the river.

"Upon our arrival we found a dog near a log that was entangled in some debris in the river," Battalion Chief, F. D. Fowler. "The dog was down an embankment, approximately 25 feet. The owner was awaiting our arrival."

The Danville Fire Department's technical rescue team arrived and donned the appropriate personal protective equipment and descended  to the dog. They were able to remove the dog from the debris and the dog swam to the shoreline and back to his owner.

The dog was uninjured and did not require assistance.

Three engines, a ladder truck, one safety officer and a chief officer responded. Animal Control and the Danville Life Saving Crew were on scene for assistance.
