For the second year in a row, George Washington High School will welcome a new principal on board this fall.
The Danville School Board Thursday approved the appointment of Reyhan Deskins to the post. He’s currently an Assistant Principal at Woodrow Wilson Middle School in Roanoke.
Deskins got an Associate’s Degree from Danville Community College in 1997 and a Bachelor’s Degree from Ferrum University in 2000. He earned a Masters in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies degree from Virginia Tech in 2016.
Deskins spent eight years as a Social Studies Teacher at Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Franklin County. He followed that up with ten years teaching Social Studies at Franklin County High School. His first administrative post was in 2017 as Assistant Principal at William Fleming High School in Roanoke.
Deskins will replace Dr. Johnnie Simmons as G.W. Principal. She served in the position for one year.
The School Board Thursday also approved the appointment of Tammy Waldron as Principal at Westwood Middle School. She’s served as the school’s interim principal the past six weeks.
