At 8:34 p.m. Saturday, Blairs Fire and Rescue responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 29 and Malmaison Road.

When units arrived, they found that a pedestrian had been struck by a motorcycle.

Both the pedestrian and the motorcycle operator received life threatening injuries.

Two helicopters were dispatched to assist.

The first helicopter landed at the Blairs Fire and Rescue helipad and the second helicopter landed at Chatham Middle School.

Both patients were flown to Roanoke Carillion Hospital. 

Blairs Fire and Rescue responded with two fire engines, an ambulance and was assisted by Pittsylvania County Public Safety medic unit.

The crash is being investigated by the Virginia State Police.
