traffic light border

The City of Danville has contracted with a company that will install high visibility yellow backplates on signal heads in six intersections. The work will be done at night, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., beginning on Sunday, Feb. 21.

The intersections are South Boston Road and Kentuck Road; Main Street and Riverside Drive; Piedmont Drive and Mt. Cross Road; Piney Forest Road and Franklin Turnpike; Piedmont Drive and Westover Drive; and Riverside Drive and Piney Forest Road.

Lights, traffic control measures, and a law enforcement presence will be in place for visibility and safety while performing the work.

Signal heads that have backplates equipped with retroreflective borders are more visible and conspicuous in both daytime and nighttime conditions. The project is funded by a Virginia Department of Transportation Highway Safety Improvement Program Grant. The total cost of the project is just under $37,000.

The contractor is McClain & Company from Culpeper.
