The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office yesterday responded to a scene in the Mt. Hermon area where a county man had accidentally shot himself in the lower leg.

"A young man was there, getting ready to go into an interview," Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Department Cpt. Gerald Ford told the Star-Tribune Thursday. "He got out of his vehicle, the gun hit the ground, went off and got him in the ankle."

The man was not named, but he is 24 years old and lives in Hurt.

"It was completely accidental," Ford said. "No charges were filed."
