DANVILLE, Va. — Sovah Health announced that Ramon Ruberte Thiele, MD, MS has joined its medical staff effective Oct. 1 and is offering orthopedic services for patients in Danville and Pittsylvania County and the surrounding region at Spectrum Medical. 

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ruberte Thiele to our team of established providers at Sovah Health,” said Alan Larson,CEO of Sovah Health Danville. “His orthopedic background and robotic assisted surgery expertise will be a valuable asset to this area and our patients.” 

Dr. Ruberte Thiele initially pursued a career as a biomedical engineer in the medical device industry and academia. Interested in directly impacting patients’ quality of life, he applied to medical school with the singular goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.

After completing additional training in robotics and navigation for partial and total joint replacement as well as revision arthroplasty, he returns to the area eager to help patients get back to doing what makes them happy.

Mako SmartRobotics  is designed to help a specially-trained surgeon tailer the placement of knee and hip implants. Dr. Ruberte Thiele is trained to use this new technology and Sovah Health is the only hospital in our region to offer this technology. Getting a precise knee or hip implant fit is important to a patient’s comfort and overall experience following knee or hip replacement surgery.

Mako uses data collected before and during surgery to inform the surgeon of many details related to the unique anatomy that may affect the implant fit. By using this data to make more informed decisions, the surgeon can plan for and carry out a personalized surgery based upon a patient’s individual needs.

Dr. Ruberte Thiele specializes in disorders of the hip and knee, robotic-assisted total hip replacement, robotic-assisted total knee replacement, robotic-assisted partial knee replacement, navigation-assisted total knee replacement, navigation-assisted partial knee replacement, revision arthroplasty of the hip and revision arthroplasty of the knee. He is accepting new patients at Spectrum Medical located at 109 Bridge Street in Danville.
