Kenneth Lee Scruggs

Kenneth Lee Scruggs, 64, of Gretna died Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.

Born February 21, 1957 in Danville, he was a son of Eloise Adkins Scruggs of Gretna and the late Berkley Lee “Bobby” Scruggs. He was predeceased by a sister, Pamela Sue Rowland. Kenneth was a manager with Supply Resources. He was a lifetime member of the Gretna Rescue Squad having joined on September 22, 1980 where he held Officer Positions of Training SGT - 1984, 1989, 1994, and 1995, 1st LT - 1986, 1987, and 1988, Captain 1990-1993 and 1996-1997, and Alternate Board of Governors Representative - 1995. He was awarded the Squadsman of the Year in 1982 and 1986. Kenneth was a member of the 1991 Virginia State EMT Championship Team and he received his Life Membership in 1998. He was also a Past President of the Gretna Volunteer Fire Department, Past Secretary of the Pittsylvania County Fire and Rescue Association, and he was the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads District 5 Vice-President from 1993 to 1994.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Keith Scruggs and wife, Lari of Gretna; one niece, Brandie Worsham and husband, Kevin of Gretna; one great-niece, Kristen Worsham, and one great-nephew, Darrien Worsham.

Graveside services will be conducted 4 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021 at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden by Ronnie Simpson.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Lari Scruggs.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Gretna Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 14, Gretna, VA 24557 or to Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer, 223 Riverview Drive, Suite J, Danville, VA 24541.
