CHATHAM, Va. — River City Sports compiled a list of All-District football players from the Danville-Pittsylvania County area. Players were chosen from Chatham, Dan River, George Washington, Gretna and Tunstall high schools. Six Chatham players made the district first team, and one Chatham player made the district second team.

Michael Gunnell earned a spot on the district first team at running back.  Gunnell is a talented runner who possesses great strength and speed. Aidan Hodnett and Yashua Bridgeforth are first team all-district offensive linemen. Offensive lineman Ethan Riley earned a berth on the district second team.

Jacob Dalton wowed crowds with exceptional play on the defensive line.  First year player Christian “Rudy” Lancaster earned his spot at defensive back. Lancaster was a destructive force wherever he lined up on defense. Linebacker Tyler Hoffman used his brain and his braun to foil the best laid plans of opposing offensive coordinators.

Thanks to Davin Wilson of River City Sports.

Chatham High School’s forestry team competed in the Southridge Area forestry contest at Montcalm Park in Bedford County. The team of Cole Oakes, Jordan Elliott, Holden Mills and Davis Ince placed second, earning a spot in the state contest that will be held near Covington. Contestants compete as individuals, and as part of a team. Cole Oakes came in first in the individual contest.
