Liberty University softball went 1-4 on their road trip to Alabama last week, defeating Troy University and losing two games each to No. 5 Alabama and No. 9 LSU.

Liberty defeated Troy 3-1 on Wednesday, with Kara Canetto's two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning, knocking in the winning runs to break a 1-1 tie.

Caroline Hudson's RBI single in fifth inning broke a scoreless tie in the pitcher's duel. Emily Kirby started on the mound for Liberty and went 4 2/3 innings, allowing three hits with eight strikeouts. Karlie Keeney relieved Kirby and picked up the win (3-0), allowing one hit and two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.

Canetto led LU at the plate going 2-4.

In the opening game of the Easton Bama Bash on Friday, No. 5 Alabama scored four runs with two outs in bottom of first inning, and added two more with two outs in fourth inning to defeat Liberty 6-3.

Savannah Channell hit a solo home run in top of 3rd inning for LU's first run, then two runs scored in top of fourth on an error and passed ball, to cut the lead to 4-3. Lexi Kilfoyl relieved starter Sarah Crowell for the Crimson Tide and shut down Liberty with three perfect innings.

Alabama improved to 5-0 on the season, while Liberty dropped to 6-1.

On Saturday, No. 9 LSU defeated Liberty 4-3, on a walk-off double by Amanda Doyle, scoring pinch runner Akiya Thymes from first base in bottom of seventh inning. Liberty led 3-0 in top of fifth on a two-run homer by Amber Bishop-Riley and a solo blast by Emily Sweat.

LSU tied the score in the bottom of fifth on two walks, a single and two sacrifice flys. Shelby Wickersham (1-0) picked up the win for LSU in reief, while Karlie Keeney (3-1) took the loss for Liberty.

LSU is 4-1 on the season, as Liberty dropped to 6-2.
Game four — the Crimson Tide scored six runs in bottom of sixth inning to defeat Liberty 8-1. Claire Tow's three-run homer was the big blow in the inning, putting the Tide up 5-0. Montana Fouts went the distance on the mound for Alabama, allowing four hits and striking out 13 LU batters.

Liberty scored in the fourth inning, when Emily Sweat doubled off the fence in centerfield, scoring Kara Canetto.

Alabama remained undefeated on the season at 6-0. Liberty dropped to 6-3.

In their final game in Alabama Sunday, Liberty dropped to 6-4 on the season losing to No. 9 LSU, 8-5. Taylor Pleasants went 3-4, with two home runs and six RBIs for the Tigers. Her three-run homer in sixth inning put the game away for LSU.

Savannah Channell hit a two-run homer for Liberty in the second inning. Channell reached on an error in the fourth inning, scoring Kara Canetto (2-4) to cut LSU's lead to 5-4. Shelbi Sunseri (3-1) picked up the win for LSU in relief.

Karlie Keeney (3-2) took the loss in a complete game effort. LSU moved to 5-3 for the season. Liberty ended the Bama Bash and headed home with a 6-4 record.

Liberty opens their home season this weekend, playing Notre Dame and Bucknell in two games each starting Friday at the Liberty Softball Stadium. This will be Notre Dame's first visit to Lynchburg.
