THS basketball 1-12

Jamarcus Brown was dominant against Patrick County this week. Here he goes for a shot against Green Run in the last Trojan loss. 

Despite dressing out only 10 players, the Trojans handily defeated Patrick County at home 72-38 on Friday, January 7 in boys basketball. 

Jamarcus Brown was dominate in the first quarter recording 6 of his 19 points. Patrick County was able to break the press several times, but Brown came through with big blocks to keep Patrick County down 15-8 at the end of the first. Brown would also finish the game with 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks.

D'dric Rogers started the second quarter with a successful drive to the basket and was fouled for and-one opportunity. The Tunstall guard finished the night with 14 points and 8 steals. Tunstall went into halftime up comfortably 45-19.

Jailyn Edmunds had another steady night of contribution with 12 points, 8 steals, and 4 assists. Lathan Witcher, who has seen time on both the JV and Varsity rosters, had quality minutes for the Trojans finishing with 11 points and 3 rebounds. 

Tunstall had another big win on the road against Dan River 89-24 on Monday, January 10. This was a much more decisive win than the narrow 9 point victory in the third home game of the season. 

Edmunds was the leading scorer against the Wildcats with 16 points, 6 steals, and 3 assists. Jason Zelinski added 13 points and 3 rebounds while Brown finished with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Aiden Terry was big on the boards with 9 rebounds and 6 points.    

Piedmont District action gets into full swing this week. Tunstall will host a rescheduled game against GW on Wednesday, January 12. Tunstall will travel to Martinsville on Friday, January 14 and host Halifax on Tuesday, January 18. 

Girls Basketball

The Varsity Lady Trojans were defeated by the Lady Cougars in Stuart. Gaby Elliott led the Trojans in scoring with 15 points. MaKiah Tarpley and Heidi Ellis led the defensive effort. Elliott, Makira Thomas, and Tarpley led the Trojans in scoring in their loss to Dan River on January 10.

The JV Lady Trojans were also defeated by Patrick County. Faith Jamison, Jordin Brooks and Naomi Mack led the Trojans in scoring. However, the Trojans were able to defeat the Wildcats led by Brooks, Jamison, and Natalie Mack.

The girls teams will host Martinsville on Friday, January 14 and travel to Halifax on Tuesday, January 18.
